Influences – Van Gogh

While in Fiji for a second time (1982-84) I started drawing again as a
result of reading Betty Edward’s book “Drawing on the Right Side of
the Brain”. I have taught this method for twenty years making my
own developments from it. I looked at van Gogh’s drawings done with
reed pens – “Vincent was able to evoke so much that colour is not in
the least missed”. I was influenced by the technique he developed
which is about midway between watercolour and line drawing a
technique used by impressionist painters so the work remained very
lively and full of movement.
